Our Story

In August of 2011, James Broach was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, a grade IV astrocytoma, also known as a glioblastoma. This came just ten months after his previous diagnosis of a grade II astrocytoma during a surgery on October 12, 2010. James endured countless surgeries, radiation and chemo treatments, and experimental trials. Even as his treatments became more difficult and the cancer grew in his brain, James knew he wanted to make an impact in the fight against brain cancer.

The Broach Foundation was born from James and his wife Jamie’s commitment to pursuing a cure for this extraordinarily challenging and under-funded disease. The Broaches and the Executive Board established The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research to provide funding for research advancing the prevention, treatment, and cure for brain cancer.

James lost his battle against brain cancer on August 26, 2013, but his legacy lives on through the work of The Broach Foundation and the cutting-edge research that the Foundation funds each year.

James was truly an inspiration to all those who knew him. Though he knew a cure would not come in time to help himself, he wanted to find a way to help others. Research requires resources, and James knew that the more we support promising novel research projects, the faster we will find a cure for this disease.
